About Hodges Woodworks

Born in Galax Virginia, R. Andrew Hodges, started at an early age, the craft of woodworking. My story started, when I was very young, in the Foothills of North Carolina. I loved spending time with my dad, he was a kind strong man, with a kind heart.

My dad told me, "If you can drive a nail, and pull it out, then you can be here with me". It took a lot of bent nails and a sore fingers to figure it out. That was not to give up. Once I got older, the family moved to Wisconsin, and where I spent more time with my dad in his shop, we had a lot of great talks and conversations. When I was living on my own, my dad gave me some advice. He said, "Andy, it's important to do what you love, and have a place where you can think and reflect".

About a week before my dad died, we worked on a saw blade carving we did together. He sat and watched me work, and I told my dad our roles have changed. He kinda laughed and said. "Nope I'm just making sure you are doing it like it should be". I laughed as well.

My father shared with me a lot of knowledge, and then I had an idea, that I'd run past my dad, to use his shop to make stuff and sell it; but give him some of the money for using his equipment. He said no, and went on to say, " If you are making and selling, you should get the pay". It makes me feel good, to see you run my tools. And I started by the name A & A woodworking.

After that my dad died in 2016. I went with A & A woodworking for about a week and I didn't like it. So I made the change and decided to call it Hodges Woodworks to leave a legacy for myself and my dad. My dad is a very important figure in my life. My father had two very important mottos. The first "Never give up". The second is "If you're going to do anything, you do it as if nobody else could do it any better".

Those are the rules I live by in all of my work that I do. Big or small, tall or wide. As I grow older I have another motto to add to my woodworking, it comes from my wife Amber, always be able to dream and follow your heart and your dreams will always come true.
